Book hotels with PetUnited
“Pet friendly” on most sites means anything — or nothing. We built a booking request system that protects you from the most common surprises.
Free for you — always
We never charge travelers. No booking fees, no service fees, no prepayment to us. You pay the hotel directly, only when you arrive and check in.
Direct with hotels, no middlemen
Your request goes straight to the hotel's team — not through a call center or an aggregator. The hotel reads your pet's details and answers within 24 hours.
Pet fee confirmed in writing
Before you travel, the hotel states the exact pet fee in its approval — and you receive it by email. No surprise $75–$250 charges at the front desk.
Your pet is approved by name
The hotel confirms your exact pet — type, breed and weight — in writing. If a hotel declines, nothing is charged and no booking exists. You never pay for a room you can't use.
Hidden and inflated pet fees
This is the most common source of disappointment. A study of 3,000 hotels across 56 countries found that 87% of hotels charge a pet fee — in the US it can reach $250 for one stay — and almost a third of them give you nothing for it: no bed, no bowl, no treat. You are paying for permission to be in the building. The key problem is opacity: the hotel shows an attractive room rate, and the pet fee only surfaces at checkout, or at the front desk.

10–15%
of “pet friendly” hotels take cats
Even after a hotel says yes, check-in can still bring:
- Weight and breed limits that were never mentioned while you were booking.
- Your dog can't be left in the room alone — not even inside a carrier.
- No dog in the lobby, the restaurant or the elevator, even on a short leash.
- A pet contract with heavy fines, handed to you only at the front desk.
How we handle it
- You state the species, breed, age and weight in the request itself — before anyone says yes.
- The hotel writes the exact pet fee into its approval, so the number can't change at the desk.
- An approval means that specific animal was accepted. You drive there knowing you will be checked in.
In practice, “pet” usually means “dog”. Only about 10–15% of pet-friendly hotels accept cats, and birds or reptiles are almost never covered at all. That is exactly why our request form asks you for the species and your pet's parameters up front, and the hotel answers for that animal. If your request is approved, you can be sure of checking in.
How it works: you send a request with your pet's details → the hotel approves or declines within 24 hours → you get the decision and the confirmed pet fee by email → you pay the hotel directly at check-in. That's it.
